Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting

Getting Started

You need a Plex account and at least one Plex Media Server set up with your media library. Flux Player connects to your existing Plex server to browse and stream your content. The app runs on iPhone (iOS 15.5+), iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

Open Flux Player and tap "Sign in with Plex". You'll be directed to the Plex authentication page in your browser. Once you sign in, the app will automatically discover your Plex servers and connect.

Yes. Flux Player supports multiple Plex servers simultaneously. All your servers appear in the library browser and search works across all of them. Content from different servers is clearly labeled.

Playback

Flux Player uses the mpv playback engine, which supports virtually all video and audio codecs including H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, VP9, AAC, AC3, DTS, TrueHD, and more. Most content will play without transcoding on your Plex server.

Spatial audio is enabled by default when using AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or compatible speakers. Go to Settings > Playback and ensure "Spatial Audio" is turned on. Your content needs multichannel audio (5.1 or 7.1) for spatial audio to take effect.

During video playback, tap the PiP button in the player controls, or simply swipe home while playing to automatically enter Picture-in-Picture mode. You can enable auto-PiP in Settings so it activates whenever you leave the app during playback.

Yes. Go to Settings > Subtitle Styling to customize font, size, color, background, and position. Flux Player also supports ASS/SSA subtitle formats with full styling. You can set a preferred subtitle language that applies automatically to all content.

Downloads & Offline

Open any movie or TV show, then tap the download button. For TV shows, you can download individual episodes or entire seasons. Choose your preferred quality in Settings > Downloads. Enable "Download on WiFi only" to prevent cellular data usage.

Yes. Any playback progress made while offline is automatically synced back to your Plex server when you reconnect to the internet. This includes watched status and resume positions.

Downloads are stored in the app's local storage by default. On macOS, you can choose a custom download location in Settings > Downloads. You can manage and delete downloads from the Downloads tab.

IPTV

Go to the IPTV tab and tap "Add Server". Enter your Xtream Codes provider URL, username, and password. The app will sync channel listings and organize them by category. You can add multiple IPTV servers.

Flux Player automatically matches IPTV content (VOD movies and series) to items in your Plex library using TMDB IDs and title matching. When a match is found, you'll see an "IPTV" chip on the Plex item, giving you the option to play from either source.

Flux Player supports the Xtream Codes API format, which is the most common IPTV provider format. This includes live TV channels, VOD (Video on Demand) movies, and TV series with episode organization.

Watch Together

Watch Together lets you watch content in sync with friends and family. One person creates a session and shares the code. Others join with the code, and all playback actions (play, pause, seek) are synchronized in real-time across all participants. Each person streams from their own Plex server.

Troubleshooting

Make sure your Plex Media Server is running and your device is on the same network. Try these steps:

  • Check that your Plex server is accessible from a browser
  • Ensure "Remote Access" is enabled in your Plex server settings if connecting from outside your network
  • Pull down to refresh the server list in Flux Player
  • Sign out and sign back in to refresh your server connections

Playback issues are usually related to network speed or server transcoding. Try:

  • Check your network connection speed
  • If on cellular, ensure you have a strong signal
  • Try a lower quality setting if your connection is slow
  • Check your Plex server's CPU usage — transcoding heavy content (4K HEVC) requires significant processing power
  • Flux Player's mpv engine can direct-play most formats, which reduces server load
